Mission Statement
The United Communities Volunteer Fire Department (UCVFD) Fire/Rescue Cadet Program has been developed to instill in each Cadet a sense of character, confidence, and self-esteem. The program will also teach fire/rescue skills, self-discipline, and respect. This program is free to all candidates. Cadets will participate in training related to fire prevention, control, and emergency medical services. The program will include formal training supplemented by field trips and developmental assignments.
Regulations
- Free comprehensive new member physical;
- Free uniforms and personal protection equipment;
- Free response pager;
- Free EMS, Fire and Rescue Training and continuing education;
- Use of Department vehicle to attend meetings, training, and fire service events;
- Station live-in program;
- Use of Department Computer Lab and Station Library;
- Use of Station Day room and lounge;
- Meals for stand-by, duty and drill participation;
- Limited use of station bay for personal vehicle care and maintenance;
- Annual department banquet and awards ceremony:
- Family-oriented social events;
- Suppression and EMS Incentive Program;
- State Tax Deduction after three years of active service;
- Length of Service Award Program (LOSAP) pension benefit at 55 years of age;
- Queen Anne’s County property tax discount after 3 years of active service;
- Queen Anne’s County Life, Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance for all members;
- Additional State of Maryland, MSFA and Federal Line of Duty Death coverage for Operational Members.
Requirements
- Be 12 to 18 years of age at the time of application.
- Submit an application and appropriate forms (with parental/guardian approval) to the UCVFD Fire/Rescue Cadet Committee for approval.
- Submit medical information that includes written consent to treat, medical history, current conditions, medications and allergies.
- Be sponsored by an “active” member of UCVFD, who will be accountable for the training and discipline of that Cadet.
- Reside on Kent Island
- Maintain a grade of “C” or better in all school classes.
